COUNTY COMMISSIONERS LOOKING FOR CITIZENS TO SERVE ON HOUSING AUTHORITY COMMISSION

EPHRATA - The Grant County Board of Commissioners announced today that they are looking for interested citizens to fill a vacant position with the Board of Commissioners of the Housing Authority of Grant County. Information pertaining to the position:

  1. The Housing Authority of Grant County. The Housing Authority is a body corporate and politic authorized under RCW 35.82 and was established by the Board of County Commissioners in 1943. The Authority is a major landlord in Grant County and owns/manages a $65 million rental real estate portfolio. The Authority additionally administers the Housing Choice Voucher program and operates state and federally funded Homeless Assistance programs. The Authority is organized as a primary government unit with 4 subsidiary limited liability companies or limited partnerships.
  2. Housing Authority Board of Commissioners. The Authority's Board of Commissioners is comprised of six individuals appointed by the Board of County Commissioners. Each serves a five-year term. The Authority has strived to maintain a geographic balance on its Commission to ensure that all areas it serves are represented.
  3. Responsibilities of Commissioners. The primary responsibilities of a Commissioner are to establish and maintain the operating policies of the Authority, approve all monthly expenditures, and assure the overall viability and financial health of the agency.
  4. Qualifications of Commissioners. There are no specific qualification requirements for the Authority's Commissioners. However, expertise in certain professional areas is considered beneficial to the functions of the Authority.  Such expertise includes but is not limited to: accounting, real estate development and management, land use planning, municipal and real estate law, and community or economic development. 
  5. Meetings. The Authority's Commission meets regularly on the fourth Monday of each month at 1:00 P.M. for approximately 1 – 2 hours. Special board meetings are not uncommon. There is no compensation for attending meetings. There is compensation for authorized travel and training.
